Prof. Dr. Alper KAYA was born in 1967 in Kahramanmaraş. He graduated from Istanbul Buyukcekmece High School in 1983. After studying an English Preparatory year in Middle East Technical University Faculty of Engineering, he started Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine.  He graduated from medicine in 1990 and worked as a primary physician and medical examiner for one year in Muradiye, Van where he worked for his mandatory service. He completed is neurosurgical training in Sisli Etfal Training and Research Hospital Neurosurgery Clinic between 1991 and 1997. He continued his work in Sisli Etfal Training and Research Hospital Neurosurgery Clinic from 1999 and become an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery in 2008. He worked in Germany and the Netherlands in different time periods. Dr. Kaya has become a professor in Istanbul Altinbas University Faculty of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery in 2014. He is currently the head of Department of Neurosurgery in Istanbul Altinbas University Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Kaya has experience and studies in brain and spinal cord tumors, pediatric brain surgery and pediatric brain tumors, aneurysms surgeries, cervical and lumbar spinal stenosis, cervical and lumbar herniated discs and scoliosis. He has experimental studies published in international scientific journals and a specific surgical technique for lumbar spinal fusion operations. He has 22 papers published in international journals, 32 papers published in national journals, 43 congress reports and 3 chapter authorships. His scientific papers have been cited 452 times internationally and his H index is 14. He has received 3 scientific research awards from Turkish Neurosurgical Society and Nervous System Surgery Society. He is married and has two sons.
